REPTILIA - A garment construction project

The work in hand has been initiated as a classroom project for a wearable art piece. The goal was to play with the simplest of silhouettes and the surface of the fabric to create an artistic piece of fashion.

The project is themed as Reptilia and hence the design process follows a brainstorming of keywords related to reptiles like rough, crispy, beaded, patchy, unpleasant etc. By carefully understanding the surface of the reptiles I decided to recreate an apparel product inspired from the Gila Monster.
The following are the swatches made on various fabrics using different fabric manipulation techniques to achieve the feel of a reptile
Techniques include burning of the fabric using incense sticks, layering, roasting and painting
Techniques include burning of the fabric, layering, roasting, painting and embroidery
